ACGME International Staff
Dr. Arrighi completed both his BS and MD degrees at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, US. He then completed graduate medical education (GME) programs in internal medicine, cardiology, and nuclear medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, the National Institutes of Health, and Yale University School of Medicine respectively.
Dr. Arrighi’s career has focused on improving GME and mentoring physician learners. Upon completion of his own education and training, he joined the cardiology faculty at Yale and served as program director for the cardiology fellowship. In addition to his clinician-educator responsibilities, he was actively engaged in nuclear cardiology and cardiac imaging research. In 2004, he joined the cardiology faculty at Rhode Island Hospital and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. There, he initially served as program director in cardiology and subsequently served as Director of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official for the BrownHealth health care system. He achieved the rank of Professor of Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, and Medical Science at Brown, and received several faculty awards for exemplary teaching. Dr. Arrighi has published more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and has delivered more than 130 national or international invited lectures.
Dr. Arrighi has had longstanding involvement with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In 2016, he joined the Review Committee for Internal Medicine, serving as its Chair for a four-year term during the rollout of the ACGME’s current accreditation model, then referred to as the “Next Accreditation System.” In 2016, he began a five-year term as Chair of the Medicine-Based Review Committee-International for ACGME-I during a period when ACGME-I saw substantial growth in its accredited programs. He joined the ACGME-I staff in his current role in 2021. Dr. Arrighi is also professor emeritus of medicine at Brown University.

Dr. Ibrahim is a board-certified internist with more than 25 years of experience in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education. As Chair of Academic Affairs and the founding designated institutional official and internal medicine residency program director at Tawam Hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), she spearheaded the institution’s initial achievement of ACGME-I accreditation. Most recently, she served as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at Khalifa University, where she oversaw clinical training and the transition to residency.
Dr. Ibrahim was an original member of the Review Committee-International, and then served on the ACGME-I Board of Directors. She has served on multiple international advisory committees in medical education and has held editorial leadership roles, including associate editor of The Journal of Graduate Medical Education and deputy editor of Teaching and Learning in Medicine. Her own research focuses on the globalization of medical education, with particular emphasis on developing culturally relevant professionalism curricula and advancing palliative care education in the UAE. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and was named a 2025 Karolinska Institutet Prize in Medical Education (KIPRIME) Fellow.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Ibrahim worked as a clinician educator in lower Manhattan prior to moving to Abu Dhabi in 2008. She is a graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center (now New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center). She also holds a Master of Health Professions Education degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Lewis joined the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2011 as Executive Director of the Review Committees for Anesthesiology, Preventive Medicine, and the Transitional Year. Before joining the ACGME, she was manager of pre-doctoral dental education and international accreditation for the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dr. Lewis earned her doctorate in higher education policy and administration from the University of Minnesota, where she conducted research on faculty attitudes and practices related to program evaluation. She has more than 25 years of experience serving as a faculty member and program director for two accredited clinical education programs in nutrition and dietetics. Dr. Lewis also has a master’s degree in allied health and a bachelor’s degree in medical dietetics, both from The Ohio State University.

Mr. Hart has more than 25 years of experience in administration at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), having staffed the Review Committees for Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and others. Mr. Hart joined ACGME-I in 2022 and has provided guidance and support for programs during application, on site visits, and completing Annual Updates in ACGME-I's Accreditation Data System. Mr. Hart has been instrumental in establishment of the global community of program and institutional coordinators, developing both online and in-person trainings and resources.

Ms. Zimmermann supports and coordinates ACGME-I accreditation activities, including developing and implementing initiatives for accreditation and quality improvement; assisting in creation of accreditation-related training materials, workshops, and webinars; and leading project teams by managing charters, reports, meetings, and executive briefings. She also creates and maintains comprehensive project plans, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to advance project progress and implementation.
Ms. Zimmermann supports the Review Committees-International in their accreditation work, applying specialized knowledge of ACGME-I requirements to committee operations, managing documentation and activities, and identifying opportunities for process improvements.
She worked in Resident Services and Initiatives for seven years at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education prior to joining ACGME-I.

Ms. Jacobsen has been with ACGME-I since 2018. She serves as the primary administrative support for the organization and as the liaison to the ACGME-I Board of Directors. Ms. Jacobsen supports the day-to-day operations of the ACGME-I staff, managing calendars, and coordinating with internal, external, and international stakeholders.
With more than 20 years of executive and administrative support experience, Ms. Jacobsen is the key point of contact for the Board of Directors, leadership scheduling, and general ACGME-I inquiries.
