ACGME-I-accredited residency programs in general surgery prepare residents to develop knowledge and technical skill to provide comprehensive care to patients with surgical disorders of the abdomen, alimentary tact, breast, endocrine organs, skin, and soft tissues. ACGME-I-accredited programs also provide educational opportunities for residents to develop competence in surgical evaluation and management of pediatric patients, patients following trauma, patients requiring intensive care, and patients with oncologic and vascular disorders.
